You still didn't explain how "immigrant status verification is related to homeland security" logically.

Sure, why not. An immigrant who is not in valid status is one who is legally not allowed to be in the country. Therefore he is a security threat. If somebody who should not be allowed in your house were in your house, you would consider him to be a security threat, wouldn't you? Am I missing something here?

For those who are NOT US Citizens or Permanent Residents, all the transactions like address change/renewal have to be done in person in TX. No online or mail access.

Ummm.. I did not know that one can do a diploma after 10th grade in India and after that, a year to get bachelors? You are right... its not very clear from the original post.. and can easily be misinterpreted as (10+2+3+1) which is 16 years of education.

This happened in 2007. USCIS conducts random audits on companies to verify their authenticity.
USCIS conducted an audit on his company. They fixed an appointment with him in his office. They asked all the tax returns, W2, Paystubs etc. They also talked to his client manager and verified his duties.
After that everything went fine. He works for the same employer now.

I was able to successfully port my EB3 to EB2 and received my GC last month. I am working for a mid-size American consulting firm. My background is Bachelors in Computers from India and did Masters in Computers from US.
I filed my EB3 labor in AUG 2005 and got both labor and I140 approved in two months.
Filed 485 in July 2007 & got EAD/AP.
Went to my Employer and requested them to either refile my application for EB2 or I will have to resign. Since I was already working as PM, it was easy for my Employer to file for EB2 for PM position.
Filed EB2 labor in March 2009, Got approved in Jan 2010
Got EB2 I140 approved in March 2010
Late March Case transferred to Local Office.
Personal Interview in May 2010 - IO was not sure why i was called for interview. No Questions asked and told to wait till date gets current.
Date got current in July.
- Call multiple times 800 number only standard response
- Went to local office and request update. IO told to wait for a week. 2 days later on 14th July got my GC approved.
I believe even if you get your GC 6 months early by porting dates, its worth it. I hope my story helps you.

What do you do if while traveling abroad, your GC is lost/stolen? Would the CBP officer at the airport allow you back in on the basis of a photocopy?

Yes you are right, there is bound to have EAD flood in market, with spouses of hi-tech worker will come to market to search hi-tech job with spouse phone support. I have seen such cases countless times in past few years and yes they will be in future without exception. However, matter of fact, these fresh EAD (previous H4) don't get the dream job in first attempt, it takes good 2 year to find a similar job that H1b hitech worker does.
But thats the realty of market, every year new jobs are added and every year new job seekers join the crowd.
On the otherside, a hitech worker is suppose to always learning something new and getting his/her position more stronger everyday, its a knowledge market, whoever knows more gets better $$. With my 7yr US exp and total 10 yrs CS exp I have no scare that any single fresh EAD will come close to me. A senior is always a senior no matter which field you talk.
But thats the realty of market, every year new jobs are added and every year new job seekers join the crowd.

Once people are out of this GC mess, they all start talking about anti immigration and that's the reality, u go to any indian community around and see how much support you have from those folks who have GC/US citizenship.
That brings a new point for IV leadership. In line with HISPANIC movement, can we take/seek help from various associations of India/China like the ones in link Indian Associations in the US : NRI Desi Associations in USA : India Social, Cultural, Religious Organisations (http://www.thokalath.com/North-America/Indo-American-Community.php)

Hi Shana,
Just came home from work and logged back. My scenario:
- I have my H1 until Sep'09.
- If i change the employer will i get an extension for 3yrs based on the approved 140?
- Do i need to file 140 again with the new employer?

If I 140 approved then you get 3 yrs extention. And if 485 filed then 6 yrs - (minus) remaning time.
If 485 filed and in 6th year then 1 yr extension hear after.
