It means ALL the cases filed before 7/17/07 have been processed, doesn't mean they are not working on cases beyond july 17th.
Please note, it means that USCIS has touched a case till the mentioned date. It does not mean that they have processed all cases before this date.

I returned to the US last year after a vacation and while my current visa's expiration date is July 2007 the customs official would only stamp my I-94 & authorize entry until May 2007 when my passport expires. My lawyer has applied for our extension using copies of my passport which is expiring soon but she advised that USCIS would need a copy of the new passport with new expiry date before approving my extension. The lawyer says your passport has to have an expiry date after the date of expiration of your visa extension. I will get a new I-94 with my visa extension btw this extension is the 3 year extension as our I-140 is approved but we have not filed for adj. of status yet. PD 5/03 EB3 ROW

Here is something interesting
My wife got her EAD approved for 2 years, she is suppose to get her extension only for a year as on Sep 10 when they renewed her card the priority dates were current.
USCIS an organization that is above and beyond the laws of this country.

As far i know you should have a valid H1 status or approved EAD to work and keep your status as valid.
Once you start working on EAD there may be gaps with next EAD approval.
Simply you will not claim working during that period but this is possible only after you start working on your first EAD.
simply if you do not have a valid H1 until you get EAD and claim working on EAD with your Employer by filling W4 forms etc. you will be out of status..
Please check with a attorney on this!!

Yep, thats what I paid ;) And while its true that we are spending a lot of money on our GC process, saving a few dollars here or there always helps.

Please Keep your spouse's application 100% ready with the exception of medical report before your date is officially current again and file it on the very first day that it is current.

Example:
Your PD = May 2005 EB2
July 2008 bulletin is released on 15th June 2008 making your PD current starting July 1st.
You have about 15 days to prepare your spouse's application and also get his/her medicals done.
Send it out on June 30th to be delivered on early morning July 1st 2008.
This is to make sure the dependent's application reaches there BEFORE any chance of your application getting approved.

My H1 would be effective only from Oct 1.
So, during this time I will be out of status right ?
So if I do my L1 Extension, I might solve the problem.

As far as I know, your H will impact your L, not the other way around. Your most recent I-94 will determine your status. Your H I-94 will start from Oct 01.
1. If your L extension cannot happen before Oct 1st, your L I-94 starts earlier than the H and will beinvalidated on October 1st.
2. If your L extension happens after October 1st - it will not happen because at that time, your status would have changed to H. So the ext will be denied as far as I know.
If you wish to continue your L after Oct 1st, get an extension approved, travel out of the country before Oct 1st, get a visa stamped and return on L after Oct 1st.

I was on HIB till 2005. I quit my job sometime last year as I was pregnant and we moved to another city. I went back to a new job/new company/new HIB early this year even though quota was exhausted. However, i had no problem is getting the approval as people holding HIB previously in 6 years do not count under quota. The only difference is that you will have to wait for the approval before you join new job unlike visa transfer. I had consulted several lawyers before i decided to quit my job.

Its the same story everytime, they will use the AgJobs and effectively kill everything. We, a significantly impacted minority, will end up getting screwed because members were more interested in reading the forums instead of educating the lawmakers.
Recapture does not increase the number of visas, it simply uses the unallocated visas. If they cannot understand this simple argument then what hope do we have. The anti immigrant forces make it sound like the bill will unleash a wave of immigrants.
