Opening up an IRA account is not a big deal. There has been lot of deals going on with different brokers. I think brokers would be Vanguard/Troweprice/Etrade,etc. Now, try to set up an appointment with a consultant of the aforementioned brokers and they will be more than happy to assist you with your own choice of funds for your IRA.

and on the issue of SSN, when I first came to this country I had gone thru the same but in my case I got the card after 6 weeks of the application ... but this wait was painful ... fortunately my company provided me salary advance (or say some money in advance which they later adjusted with my salary) and I survived ...

You should look at it from the point of view of the immigration officer, that person was 50% immigrant and because of that needs to apply for a Green Card, on the mean time one visit a year for less than 90 days or one visit every two years for 6 months will make them a 25% of the time or less resident of USA, which doesn't raise any flag, you have to put yourself in the shoes of the immigration officer.
On the same lines, one of my relative was also denied entry into the US at the Mineapolis airport. She is a widow, 70 years of age, and used to come here to visit her only son and daughter-in-law and their son, since last 6 years. She used to stay for 6 months during the summer time (April to Oct.) and then 6 months in India. But this time when she came here they denied her entry suggesting that you have a pattern of staying here since last 6-7 years at the same time of the year, so you are doing something illegal!!!!......
Now how can one explain this???....70 years of age, a widow and her only son and daughter-in-law earning together earning atleast 6 figure income, a house of their own.....never went out of status, never extendend her stay beyond 6 months.......doing something illegal? and that too they said that they 'suspect'!....no proof whatsoever.....but according to law, she had to go back....this sucks big big time.

basically you have to maintain GC and then also abide by citizenship requirements. regarding the stay if you want to apply for citizenship after 5 years of getting GC you should physically be in US for 30 months (ie half of the 5 years) and no single travel outside of US should span more than 6 months (though under some circumstances you could counter travels between 6 months to 1 year).

i never filed EAD before but i filed 131 by myself 2 weeks back. its pretty straight forward and i even got receipt notice. make sure you attach all the required proofs along with new fees. thats it.

The amendment was filed way back in sep 2007 and they got the RFE in Nov 2008....
The amendment is denied because of the Annual salary specified & also because we couldn't get the End client letter(Client told me that it's company police not to provide such type of letter). we provided main vendor contract.

I agree that capitalism is the first american value..... and IMHO it is the only one that works........ Look at France and the old European countries vs the new EU countries that were part of the Warsaw pact who adopted complete capitalism instead of the hybrid capitalism/socialism........

I can bet that if USCIS came up with a plan where they would adjudicate labor, I140 and 485 in one month guaranteed for a premium fee of say 50k, most employers would come up with a way to pay the same and recoup part of it from the employee. Those on an H1 working for consulting companies where they pretty much work for a percentage of the billing would take a loan, max their cards out and do it.

I can confirm that .. i have been trying for the past 4 weeks and NOTHING... always says "no dates available".
Now, the VFS site is giving the error "No dates available" for visitor visa. Even if you opt for an emergency appointment option, you still get the same error.
Are others facing the same issue? Is something wrong with this site?

If I485 is denied for wrong reason (due to USCIS error), I understand that the application and attorney can file a MTR, but during the time till the case is reopened again, is it legal for the employee to work on EAD?
My assumption here is once the denial notice is received, it may take few weeks/months to gather the necessary information, send it to USCIS and then the case gets reopened.
This is a grey area subject to interpretations. Talk to an Anttorney - the reason I say this is - when your 485 gets denied wrongfully (your Attorney will tell you if the REASON was wrongful) - say AC21 old employer revoke 140 after 180 days - then an MOTIC whould resolve your issue - which typically takes a few weeks to 2 months or a bit more. Whether you stay here or work here - it is the same - no "Particular status". Once your MOTIC gets approved, you are back in status - so it is a big grey area subject to interpretation and Attorneys have different views based on how conservative one wants to be.
If you are sure your 485 can get denied for a "right reason" - then MTR or Appeal may not work - so you have to work out other options.

I use the rectangle marquee tool. I guess it all depends on personal preference. If you use the rectangle shape tool you will have to right click on the layer and hit "Rasterize Layer" to be able to edit the object.
If you use the marquee tool you just have to fill it with paint and everything is set.
Not to mention, if you use the shape tool, it automatically creates the shape on a new layer, but if you use the marquee tool, your fill color will end up on the layer you currently have selected.
