I've recently installed a 2.33ghz c2d chip in my old 1.66 cd mac mini. The performance boost has been great!
I've noticed temps have gotten a little high while running encodes and such... around low - mid 90s C while handbrake is encoding. I know this is still within operating temperature, but i'd like them to be a little lower.
I managed to keep the plastic clips from breaking while installing my cpu. I've been thinking about replacing the nylon clips with some nylon screws, like others have mentioned.
My question, Do people use the springs that came with the clips when installing the screws? Or do people just screw the heatsink down snug to the cpu without the springs?
Thanks,

Try starting in "safe" mode by holding down the shift key on startup. Then, you should be able to install the update to 10.1.5.
I'm curious as to what model iMac that is. 10.1 is very old, and really was the first useable version of OS-X. You should try and upgrade to a bare minimum of 10.2 (Jaguar), but the latest version that will run on your model would probable be best.
10.3 (Panther) would be the lowest I would recommend; 10.4 (Tiger) even better (I'm making a guess your model is below the minimum spec to run Leopard, 10.5.).

Does this copy the OS as well? I ask because I am getting a Mac mini but want to put a different hd in it. I plan to use my external case to house the new drive and connect it to my Mac. I thought I read that there was something that came with the Mac (so you don't have to buy anything) that would let you copy everything including the os to a new clean drive.
If you have a Time Machine backup and are installing a new hard drive you can boot up from your OS X install disk and under Utilities (if I remember right) you can choose to restore the new hard drive from a Time Machine Backup. I did this for a friend when I replaced a hard drive for him in a Macbook.

Stunning... no other word for it. But is it the right typeface?
Good catch. I had a Homer Simpson moment shortly after I posted. I was hoping I could just quietly replace the image but the mods want me to start a new thread.
Thanks for the comments everyone. :)
Edit, new thread started

The late 2008 models run with Core 2 Duos, right? I don't think Core 2 Duos use DD3. They use DDR2, which would mean that you wouldn't be able to use it in your old MBP. Just look under "About this Mac" and it should say what memory it uses.

Because they ran out of ideas.
When all else fails just slam a bigger camera in there. Just play the specs game. Never mind the software ecosystem.
Err? It runs Windows Phone 7 so it will be able to run all of the Windows Phone 7 apps and it also syncs with Zune or iTunes (via Windows Phone 7 connector on Mac) in just the same way as iPhone does.
Remind me again what part of the "software ecosystem" is missing here?

I'd like to see one with an Otterbox Commuter. This is what I would be buying most likely if and when I get my white ip4 so it'd be nice to see if it will fit. Emailed their customer service last week but no response yet.

Totally depends on what software you want to run and expected number of users. Also does it have to be OSX?
Mac Pro isn't an ideal full time server since you are spending money on video card, Bluetooth, I/O ports, airport, etc.

Come on kids. You can work it out with a bit of pythagoras. Do you need me to tie your shoe laces for you as well?
You wouldn't use pythagoras: it's for right angled triangles, and the iMac isn't in the shape of a triangle; to find out the size of the stand, you would use estimated proportions, as you don't have any other data from that "helpful" website.
I thought this was funny - when people try to outsmart someone and end up failing. Just like on YouTube:
"Your dum." *Marked as spam*
Then someone replies: "You're the dumb one. You can't spell 'your' or 'dum'."
or, "Irony at its best."

There shouldn't be any qualitative difference btwn DV files imported on older / newer machines and the import from tape is in real-time, so an old machine will crank away just as well as anything. The new machine will make a big difference when actually transcoding, editing, and exporting.
Seconded. No need to wait.

Nice way of telling me it's worth avoiding :D
You read into that what you wanted to hear.
There's nothing to avoid really. It's near the best version of lemmings since the Amiga ones.
Faults are the no mouse support, but in fairness the controller works very well. And 40 levels wont last you forever.
But like I say for 3.50 can you really complain ?
Well as it's you Jimmi - the answer is probably ;) :p :D j/k
