Our community needs to get this - We [through non-participation] are the problem, not others.
If folks had turned up in DC rally in 10,000-20,000, if equal number thousands had written letters to their Congressmen, if all of them had visited local offices, if hundreds of them had visited DC offices - we would have succeeded by now. Steve King or not.
We did nothing, except make those last minute calls. We gave the lawmakers suggestion for solution (pass HR xxxxx), without bothering to educate them what the problem is and how many are impacted. Results were there for everyone to see, Horses bill was put for discussion before ours, making it very easy for Mr. King to do his dirty work.
We shouldn't be complaining. I bet the horse lovers (animal rights activists) were more active and successful in educating the lawmakers than our community. Hence they got the precedence.
Point is there will be lawmakers like Rep King and Sen Sessions, who'll oppose any visa increase or recapture, rain or sunshine. There are also lawmakers who are sympathetic to us to balance them out. Our biggest hurdle is other lawmakers who don't have a stand on the issue. They are the majority and their vote can go either way. Our biggest hurdle is to reach out to these lawmakers, explain our problems and convince them that a sufficiently large number of their constituents are impacted.
If we succeed in doing that, our battle is won. No King or Sessions can stop us.
Good job on bringing this back to fire.

thanks for your supportive words for CP filers now CP filers need some relief as they are not able to get an EAD/AC21. I think we could ask to allow CP filers to file 485 with out having dates current and conserdering their CP filing date to get EAD and AC21.

Dude you can convert from CP to AOS even after filing for CP. Your CP can be canceled. Vise-versa is more complicated. Even murthy.com had some write up on this. Go search their website.

with all due appreciation to the work done by IV, this suggesstion is not thought out.
You just cannot run away from your past. For example your existing applications to USCIS will have your india/<country> passport nos. There are many ways they can trace you.
So growing a moustache etc, or dressing like a mexican will not help.

Or ohhh wait r they creating a new record assigning something like 1991 for EB* (India) rather than U?

Maybe she can apply for F-1 visa first, then get married...Let her come to US on F-1 and then get married here in local county...But it's tedious and lengthy process though, apart from the heartburn ur gonna give to many back home by postponing ur already fixed marriage...

I have had 1 friend go through this. In his case he decided to go through the "India Doctors Association" and they refered him to this OBGYN who helped him as community service. She didnt charge anything for her own fees but he had to pay the clinic for tests. For hospital he just put his hands up and didnt pay a penny - it ofcourse spoiled his credit but he didnt care as the amount was so unrealistically high for him (wife had c section so it costs like 40-50k).
I did a quick google and there is something called the "North Texas Indian Physicians Charitable Foundation " contact them and Im sure they will help you out by working with one of their members.

I believe Mbhai did a dis-service by negating good advice. What is the guarantee that the 2nd women that this guy marries will not ask for divorce? The best thing he can do is find a way to reconcile, unless there is marital infidility.
I believe "snathan" story was inspiring and addressed the true problem of that individual and every indivudual's life. Trust me, when you all get your GC's ...it will be these things that will matter to all of you, rather than anything else.

Your most compelling argument of preponing your visa interview is that they have opened slots which were not earlier available and you would like to finish this process and keep some time incase some additional documentation was required, you would have the time to get it. Also, there is NO RULE that says you cannot prepone appointment.
Also, I suggested you get a fresh appointment at Mumbai (your original appointment was in Chennai - correct?)

You cannot change employer and keep I-140 if you have not filed I-485 yet. You will have to start the GC process anew if you change the jobs now. So wait untill you apply for I-485. Wait 180 more days after that and you are free to change jobs if your new job is same or similar to your current job.
As you started your GC just now, it's OK to switch the employer and start the GC process once again. If your new employer is ready to start GC process and ready to offer good package, go ahead and take. Don't even think about any other things. If you have to pay for your GC, you need to work on the pros,cons and expenses.
As the dates retrogressed so badly, there will not be any difference if your PD changes by couple of months.

I am working in tech field doing techie stuff (like System.out.println ;)) I did PMP in Jan 2008.. so far i didnt get a chance to use my PM skills (thanks to USCIS for not giving me GC yet and limiting my ability to look for better job)
I havent done MBA so I did learn few (project) management lessons while preparing for PMP.. although I wouldnt say that real world project management generally follows what is published by PMI
For studying PMP, I would highly recommend reading PMP Prep book by Rita Mulcahy.. I never read PMBOK... Also, give few mock up exams (there are plenty available on net)...
I am preparing for CFA level 1.. and man PMP was much easier! (just comparing one certification to the other - one with 5 books to read and other with only 1 book!)
