Hello Everybody
This is my first post. I worked my ass off to get a favorable
solution for retrogression during the budget bill. But as everyone knows it was defeated in the house reconcilation. I'm not being pessimistic but my gut feeling is that eventhough senate comes with something, the chances are slim that the house would agree to it. Sensenbrenners bill which house passed has no provisions for EB immigrants and backlogs. I'm pretty sure all of you are aware of Mr. Tancredo's fury against immigrants too.
Having said that I dont mean we have no way out. We have to work very very hard. We have to raise money and do some hard lobbying. But above all we have to get our employers to back this issue. With all of the above reasons I think it might be a very bad idea to guess we would have any favorable legislation in a shorter span of time. So we have to plan something for a longer period of time and execute it very diligantly, I guess.
I think Immigrationvoice is on the right path... Lets face it people!!!

EB immigrants are not a hot political issue with the House, when the illegals are. Nowhere do the house representatives, except Tancredo and the likes, voiced their opposition to expanding EB immigration and providing some sort of relief for people caught in the backlog. I believe that the immigration provisions were dropped from S.1932 just because it was a wrong bill. The pork got chopped off and this pork was too easy to compromise as there were much more important issues to fight for, like drilling in Alaska and Medicare. This bill IS about immigration issues and is about border security issues as well. The fact that Frist's bill drops the very controversial guest worker program can be considered as both a good and a bad thing. It is good since the bill will sail more smoothly through the Senate and hopefully the conference. On the other hand it is bad since Senate representatives in the conference now will not have this guest worker program to trade and drop when House reps will demand to drop something off the bill. To my understanding the way the conferences work, they need to meet somewhere in the middle in between the versions of the bill and since we have the very minimalistic bill passed by the House it is the Senate which will need to compromise and drop provisions from its bill.
But taking the guest worker program off the bill is a good start I guess.

i think CP filers have a valid point to argue for relief. clearly there is an injury to CP filers as the dates were moved forward creating the impression that they will continue to do so or at least hold steady. legal opinion was also in favor of CP based on individual circumstances in many cases. many of these filers already underwent a lengthy BEC process, which newer Perm/I-485 filers never went through. the government flip flop is the cause of this additional injury.
instead of asking for specific fixes to be put in, CP filers should articulate this problem clearly and get legal opinion as to possible relief measures.

My experience with Picture People was ok - fair, I guess those are fine pictures as per USCIS specifications, but nothing out of the ordinary. 14.99 for a set of 4 pictures. Set me back about $80 for 3 sets of 8 pictures.
But my own pictures came out better and are as per specifications. The question is whether to take a chance in case i missed anything or to go with Ok-Fair pictures from Picture People. decisions.. decisions... damn.. retrogression
and of course most portrait studios would guarantee acceptance else will give you a refund or take pictures again for free in case of an RFE.

When is this name check reform getting implemented. Why is is so difficult to implement ?
Because the USCIS did not implement name check procedures properly in the first place - they are not required by law and are not codified in the regulations, the USCIS can implement new procedures simply by issuing inter-office memorandum. One day is enough to do this. I anticipate this may happen within the next two months, more likely early next year. But one can never predict the USCIS, it does not have logical behavior :)

Interestingly, on our last visit to DC two congressional offices asked the very same question. They were actually surprised to hear that there is a problem.

In several responses people have compared MBA and PMP, I don't these two are comparable. Any thoughts?
I am not sure why the 2 are being compared. One is a professional degree while the other is a certification. MBA prepares you (in theory) for several different jobs (marketing, finance, ops, general mgmt etc.) while PMP is primarily to "check the box" on program management. With all due respect to the PMPs (and other PM credentials) I havent seen any additional skills that PMP provides.
Yes- I have an MBA and a PM certification and work with several IT PMs/techies but an not in IT myself.

What make you think BCOM or BBA or BSC is less than any other Bachelor degree EB3 own labor guys have. I am not here to defend or oppose LS. But before you talk about people who are not from same educational background as you, you should come out of bottom of Rock you have been living and breathe some fresh air. I for one, who has BCom and able to get my labor and GC cleared without using any of short cuts. :mad::mad::mad:

Schumer said he expects Obama to show his "unyielding commitment" toward the goal but demanded that advocates recognize that Democrats must show the American people they believe that "illegal immigration is wrong -- plain and simple."
"All of the fundamental building blocks are in place to pass comprehensive immigration reform this session and, even possibly, later this year," Schumer said. "I truly believe that [President Obama's] leadership will be the critical difference in getting us over the hump this time around."
However, Schumer added, "the American people will never accept immigration reform unless they truly believe their government is committed to ending future illegal immigration. . . . Advocates understand the need to embrace this principle during the current debate."

If they can attach Dream Act as an amendment to the Defence policy Act why cannot they attach SKILL to the same. That is the question we should be acting on.
I think expecting Sen. Cornyn to do something now is kind of remote. He is going to be facing elections soon in 08. May be Cantwell is the one to do it.
