NY never picks up call (passport, pio & receptions) or replies to mail.
Wait times in person are horrible - 5-6 hours. only 1 person to serve all the people for passports, pio /oci cards etc.
Their turnaround time is pretty good.
I prefer to deal with via postal even though it is walkable distance from my work.

Dear IV Members,
I have sent the both the Faxes (NY Senators, please let me know if I should send it to all)
Initially It was unclear to me if I should send both the faxes or should I pick one, after reading both of them , I could find some differences and sent both the faxes.
I am also trying to reach my friends and other contacts who may not yet be aware of IV and letting them know of your web site and efforts.

Preponing visa interview without very valid reason cud be harmful. u never know, if they catch ur wife telling a lie then ull be walking on thin ice.
I disagree with this statement. Your most compelling argument of preponing your visa interview is that they have opened slots which were not earlier available and you would like to finish this process and keep some time incase some additional documentation was required, you would have the time to get it. Also, there is NO RULE that says you cannot prepone appointment.
Also, I suggested you get a fresh appointment at Mumbai (your original appointment was in Chennai - correct?)

Not a fan of AZ law, but I'm delighted that it has pushed immigration issue to the forefront, forced federal govt's hand and jolted it out of its inaction. Many a battles will be won/lost over immigration in Nov 2010 elections.

Hi,
I filed I485 and my I140 got cleared. My employer is not willing to give my Approved I140. I am not sure why he is holding my I140. I dont have have any idea to change job at this time.

Very glad to see that these people have been caught by the law enforcement agents. These are the people who care candidates for EB1 category for greencards. As most of these join the fake IT bodyshops and show multinational executive experience on their resume. This is not the only university where you see people from Andhra Pradesh misusing law, there are many universities in the same business. I hope to see more enforement like this. I wish the USCIS and other related agencies crack down on the misuse of credential in the greencard process. Most of the IT people with fake experience and reporting structure should be punished for violating law and legitimate people with US education should get their right place in the waiting list.
My wife is on H4 visa and looking for opportunities. She gets calls from all these consultant who ask her to get on to F1 visa at some community college and then use CPT/OPT for working on their projects.....when i came to this country to study at a top ranked university, i thought F1 visa is for higher education...now it is used in community colleges. New learning everyday!!

We filed our AOS, EAD and AP on Aug 13th at NSC. We are from Santa Clara county in california. I heard that people from santa clara are getting FP's very late?
We have got our Receipts on Sept 30 and EAD on Oct 28th. No FP and AP yet.
My question is how to create service request?
We are planning out of country. Just waiting for this FP to be done.
Can we postpone FP for a specific period of time?

I was wondering if update is only available through state chapter? If so we are in blackhole,,, as many of us are not members of state chapter..
Or if we have more action items to act on apart from calling reps..chc and lamar smith ?
Neways.. i have asked for NC state chapter enrollment ..so hopefully i'll get the updates from then on...:)
there is only one action item right now and it is on the forum.
the update and action needed prior to this was handled by state chapters, however everyone is now up to date with what needs to be done.
state chapters are voluntary but very effective in initiating grassroots approaches to our problems, they have also proved very effective with focussed actions recently. a state chapter is simply a local community that networks and offers support. so it really has many other advantages than just a question of updates.
anyway there is no fresh update currently.

In my earlier post, I dint mean to say that all Kinkos are bad, its just the particular one near me was not good enough. The photos were as if they were taken with a yellow filter on their lenses.
Sears did a very good job instead.
You can just tell them that you need photos for passport. They are the same requirements
Think it this way, your photo might be scanned by their machine to be printed on visa/notice. If the photo is not of good quality it might get pixelated after they scan.
So be your own judge, think if you were in USCIS shoes and had to scan a photo and produce it on visa/stamp. They might also use some image recognition softwares for which they require exact speicifications.
In my case the yellow tinge I got from kinkos exactly matches with the improper color on the website below. So i had to go for other option

current count 260.Great job everyone.I was chatting with few friends casually and mentioned this. Four of them also have voted. If we can hit 300 by end of the day today, that will be pretty impressive. As someone said, even though this might seem very insignificant but spending 3-4 minutes is definitely not going to hurt us.

Similar situation here...applied EAD/AP renewals 1st week of May at NSC for self and spouse. So far only my EAD has been approved, which is pretty much of no use to me since i am on H1B - but employer was paying all costs, so the law firm applied it anyway.
Spouse needs EAD ASAP before expiry, but nothing yet. I want to modify wht u quoted below:
"USCIS won't give u what u want" I think they somehow have an idea of how desperate u r for someting and ur processing/wait time is proportional to your desperation. :-)
E-filed on May 5th, FP on June 6th, no updates since. Concerned as I'm working on EAD and current one expires August 29th.
Paper filed AP in late June, approved already (as per e-mail) even though I only needed it in mid October!!
