Leave it to us 'Skilled' folks to shred an idea before implementing it. What is the harm in mailing out a letter. We tend to focus on bringing out the negatives and keep discussing issues till the train passes us by.
The bailout plan is a short window of opportunity, what is wrong in sending out some emails, we are not the only ones doing this there are hundreds of organizations trying to get their word in edgewise.
(I for one am even willing to write a proposal to 'buy' a GC, if EB applicant is waiting for more than 5 yrs since his/her PD, they can pay 10-15 grand to fast track application irrespective of the fact that the PD is current or not. USCIS stands to make 2 billion. I prefer paying 10k to uscis instead of the yearly drain towards my lawyers SLK.)

I think as someone said this guy was randomly throwing numbers out there. How come his analysis does not account for remaining 36K EB1 and EB2 ROW applications. Is he suggesting that all EB1 and EB2 ROW are being used up also. Very hard to believe that for 2008 and 2009 with the way the economy is going. Lot of product companies where most of the ROW 485s would likely come from have stopped applying perm since last summer. There is a huge flaw in this analysis and its not as pessimistic as it seems.

this depends on the number of approvals and not on the number of applications received. Even if there are tons of applications received, unless there are enough approvals happening simultaneously, dates would not retrogress in the middle of the month.
USCIS had approvals before dates moved. USCIS knows the number of such approvals.
These approvals are getting GC before approval of current applicants. If earlier approvals use up quotas, retrogression does not have to wait for current approvals.

You have to look at the context in which my comments were made. Somebody said that H4 spouses go to college and pay instate fees but they have to pay international fees. I never said that ROW people do not have any of those problems but it just that we have to endure that for some more years. Having said that, I reiterate that I want my GC fast but not at the expense of ROW people. They do not have to endure a longer wait.
I thought this thread was given a decent burial, I could trust only you to bring this thread back to life with your hidden agenda of driving a wedge between Indians/Chinese and ROW.

I am willing to contribute $10 to get solid legal advice on this and I am willing to contribute a lot more in a lawsuit IF and ONLY IF there is a strong legal basis for it.

Already it happened for other workers category last month. In mid july THEY WILL STOP accepting 485s if they receive more than they could process.
I did not see any precedance for stopping I485 in the middle of months for past 10 years. If it happens that will be first time

We all have different views and support different nut jobs standing in elections. The real sad part is to see some people who I dont think are really bad, openly in this discussion forum putting one community down. Supporting a arsonist, a murderer, a rapist and who has blood of 2000 innocent people on his hands as a "good" administrator is an insult to the intellegence we all claim to have. All communities/castes/religions have suffered enough in India already and not one religion or people can claim to be on morally high ground. We all have kept quiet through the darkest times in India. We should not anymore. Stop insulting the great men (Nehru, Gandhi and others) of our country. With out them and their work we all would be polishing the shoes of some firangi. Pinto, I strongly support your idea.
I guess many have given up and many are just trying to hang on to their jobs ..but don't give up ..just think about the peace of mind that a GC gives ..no more headaches from lawyers, USCIS, RFE's, employers, DL etc ..at the very least comment on this idea but before you dismiss it come up with a better idea (it is very stupid of people who just criticize but don't come up with alternative ideas).

what if all immigrants and members were to call their local realtors - show interest in buying a house and once the realtor is interested ..tell her / him that you are postponing your home buying decision since the green card has got delayed ..and maybe ask him / her to tell the NAR (national realtor agency) to speak about speeding green cards to legal immigrants who are already here ??
...if people are motivated then maybe we can do media campaign too ..

I am EB3-ROW with PD of Feb 2006. My I-140 (filed as systems analyst) is approved and I filed my I4285 in Aug 16, 2007 (RD). I have approved EAD and AP good until Nov 21, 2008. I have been offered a job as Director of Software Development at another company in the same state. Because my I-485 has been pending for over 180 days I'm assuming I should be able to take the job under AC21. The new job seems a natural progression to my career (a promotion of course) but the USCIS has not issued definite guidelines on how to define a "similar" job. What's your advice on this? Should I take the job?

I am a patriotic Indian. Why the hell cant this Khan guy go through the same ordeal as an ordinary Indian or any other passenger. Why all the fuss? Is he god??? Hell NO...I would just tell him to shut up and carry on with life. He is an idiot and just doing this for more publicity. How many Indian muslims go through this shit everyday? What's your choice? Home Country and Canada. The choice isn't between US and Canada. If you had an option to live in US you wouldn't be talking about canada.
If you compare US to canada you are all set for disappointment. The taxes are higher and jobs are definitely harder to find. Eveything is a little more expensive compared to US. (If you look at books CDN prices are always higher). But on the other hand, houses are way cheaper. What cost 600 K in SF Bay Area costs 350 K in Toronto suburb.
Canada still has a higher standard of living than Europe/Australia. I recently met someone who's been in Canada for 40 years and he told me that the highest tax bracket is 35%. It used to be 45% about 10 years ago.
Anyway, compare with going back home not US.
Say even if you get the canadian PR, you have to pay tax's close to 45%.
Medical is free but unless you are really sick or anticipate being sick, I think its not much of value. And if you are in a decent comp in the US you get almost free care.
Also the job senario is not as good as its in the US. I heard its a lot more harder to get a job in Canada. Yes its true with PR you can work anywhere but how many of us will do that.

I think IV should get a new law introduced which changes the surplus visa trickle down policy so that equal number or visas gets distributed between EB3 & EB2. This law will have maximum possibility of getting passed.
