I had 485 interview a month back (previously at the national benefits center) at the local USCIS office. The interview went fine except that they gave me an RFE asking for additional documents verifying employment. Since then I submited documents to the local office a 3 weeks back. Today my supervisor got a call from USCIS Anti Fraud Detection (homeland security) and they left a voice mail that they need to verify my immigration status.
Is this normal? Is there something i need to worry about?
My record is pretty straighforward. I am with the same employer since 2002 first on H1b and then EAD on a permanent postion and no gap in employment and never out of status

Good for you that your case is straight forward , you were never out of status and you are indeed working for the company that had sponsored your GC. It is good for every one that they are trying to weed out the bad apples. That would mean , speedier movement of dates for genuine cases :)

Had they able to think that far, may be many of the issues we face today wouldn't have cropped.

The highlighted statement doesn't seem to be correct. You can have more than one employer file an H-1B petiton for you.
Until the time you left your university employer, you were in status with the original H-1B (cap exempt).
Now, you need to either get the job back at the university, or ask the consultant outfit (A) to employ you.
Could you state the reason given my USCIS for denying the H-1B petition filed by consultant (B)?
Also, I would refrain from using the word "transfer", as there is no such thing. It is always a new petition, with request to not count it in the yearly cap.

I am still not able to figure about while entering US, how they know that you have AP? Do they have any way to find out that you have applied for AP? If not, then once you have H1B stamp in your passport, it should be smooth entry...
I am not local to Mumbai and I hate to go to the visa stamp as they always treat us bad..
Also, My H1B expires Jun 2010. Can I extend H1B if I enter in US using AP without having H1B stamp in passport?

Make sure Hotel is Safe and not with short term stay like pros.... .Even you have to to spend little more go for that.I had very bad experience.I had lost my documents that time.

Thanks for a positive reply at last.I checked my both 797s my current one ends on Nov 14 and my future one starts at Nov 15.So i see there is no gap.Hopefully i will be good i guess.I am planning to go to Charlotte Border Security and see if they say me the same.Any way your comments made me rethink that i will be ok.

My 140 was filed in Nov 2006. I had to wait 2 full years before my case got approved in Nov 2008.
My lawyer did not even open a service request. She was against infopass too. Her reason was that these would work for any other case except 140.
Based on my experience, I would recommend the following:
1. Ask your lawyer to go through AILA. This is the most preferred way and should work in 99% of the cases (This is what worked for me though it took a lot of time)
2. If option 1 does not work, try to go through your local congressman.

Not workable if we don't have the number of real active members, which I think is a big problem. We have 40K userid's and only 1000 votes.... doesn't' make sense. Either these id's are fake, obsolete or created in error.

Do we have to send our application to one of the centers based on where we reside/work?

1. current law allows u file at Nebraska
2. direct filing memo says that filing can be done at Texas or Nebraska based on the state u work in from 07/30/2007..however they are allowing people from now till then to do the same.

I guess the only question that remains now is if I beat the clock and am able to file I-485 (assuming everything works out in EB2 case) before the current H1B expires, what would my status be until I receive my EAD. My understanding is that is takes few months for the EAD to be approved but the H1 has long expired. Are you in status or out of status then?

I got the exact same letter today, except mine says below "CANCELLED", that I am to appear on July 9th at the Jacksonville FL. office at 8 am. - so is it cancelled or not?
I spent 45 minutes calling the stupid 800 number on the notice, wasting time pressing numbers 1-9 and never getting a human being on the phone to find out what was going on. Needless to say I was extremely frustrated by the time I just pressed 3, which was supposed to be for a change of address, but I finally got a real person on the line and she managed to transfer me to the right department.
When I finally got to speak to someone there, this woman was as confused as I was and nothing was resolved. She said that the July 4th holiday affected appointments from July 5-8, but that doesn't include my appointment date. She finally said she would forward the issue to her supervisor and have her contact me to sort this out. I have not heard anything yet so I have no clue at this point what is going on and if I need to show up for the appointment or not.
I have to travel approx. 3 hours each way to get to Jacksonville and I made that clear, that I was not willing to waste time getting the folks I live with to drive that distance when they are elderly and disabled if I wasn't meant to be there.
She was very nice and very understanding but unable to resolve the problem so I wait for the supervisor I guess.
Does anyone else have a clue what happened or why this sort of confusion went unnoticed? I mean, anyone reading the notice I got would go :confused:

Just an advise: Check what's on your I-797 and that's your official receipt date. Count 180 days plus 1 after that and you're good to change employer with same/similar occupation.

I feel paid and verified membership is much better. That way we can raise the money and we won't have trash talkers between us and we will know everyone by name......a team rather than an online platform. Just a thought.
