Infy, wipro, TCS and all the other hundreds of so called "Hi Tech" companies are just glorified body shoppers.
The media has hyped these "coolie transporting outfits" to be path breaking businesses.
Adding insult to injury, INFY is soon to be listed on the NASDAQ 100.

Today I got a call from an officer in "immigration and customs enforcement" asking for an appointment to visit my residence for checing my immigration status.
I am on H1B visa.
I would appreciate if someone could give any sort of information related to calling for a home visit.

This is the most bizarre thing I ever heard w.r.to immigration. Usually the IO schedules an interview at one of the local offices or at one of the CBP (Customs and Border Patrol) offices. Atleast in San Francisco, both USCIS and CBP offices are located in the same building.

Guys,
I know ROW country may not like this thread, but look at EB-3 India or China, put yourself in our shoes and than you may realize how unfair this country is. In this unprecedented financial turmoil, I feel there are very remote chances for CIR or any package which increase immigration etc would pass, I am taking this initiative to gather as many people I can and go to washington. Again this is not an IV effort. If you are with me , you can spare some time or few days in Washington, please PM me. our sole agenda is bring a 2 line bill to remove country quota...

This situation is really bad. There are so many people who missed the deadline as their labor was stuck in BEC. USCIS should at least allow a one-time chance (like July 2nd) for such people to file 485. I was lucky to clear the labor stage earlier this year.
Ya...Atleast, they should allow us to file EAD. In that case my spouse can work. She did not get H1b this year(because of lottery system). She has PHD in CSE and sitting at home.

Your case is a bit different, I am not sure if you could avoid paying back as GC process is for your benefit so a company could request a pay-back, even though amount is a bit high and you did not get anything in return. I would compare it to a situation where company gives an employee a laptop and expect person to return it when s/he leaves a company.
helloh1's clause is different - company receives benefits by training its employees so it's just plain wrong to request a pay back in that case.
So just forget about it and move on, we all make mistakes and here in the US those mistakes usually cost money.

As long as your orig employer does not complain(which i hardly doubt anyone will do) you are fine, worst case scenario if someone does, then its not a big hurdle to cross with an able attorney's help.
Just to put your mind at ease, i have several friends(not friend-of-a-friend) who had quit at various intervals (1-2-3 months) after getting their GC's and haven't faced a single issue while in process of becoming a citizen.
In short its better to be safe than sorry so these attorneys suggest staying for atleast 180 days.
If that is the case, then why is it that all immigration attorneys are asking us to stay with our current employers citing this "Intent" thing? Are you saying that it's all smoke and no fire?

The first thing to do in call your attorney and ask him to be with you when any uscis or ice guy shows up. Right to an attorney is a basic right. Do not think that u will offend ice officer if u have u'r attorney present. Do not think that u'r charming personality will put u in the good books of ice. If I were u, I would not do anything, without consulting my attorney in such a matter.
Also, keep bank stmts and all recent paystubs handy, along with past exp. Letters and degree/certificates. Copiew of h1 + gc petition/approval would be good to have.

I have one week from now for his visit. He gave me his desk number too. So I guess he is still an ICE employee. I did not call him at that number though.

Is IV still collecting the list of affected EAD ? I received an RFE, and have provided all the documents, and my 90 day period is coming up soon. Please help. I have contacted my congressman also.

Starting July 16th, 2007, labor certification has a 60 day validity period. Meaning, a I-140 petition needs to be filed within 60 days from labor approval date....If immigrant visa numbers are unavailable (dates retrogressed), you wont be able to file your I-140/I-485 concurrently but you can file your I-140 petition irrespective of your priority date as long as you have a labor approved. You dont have to apply for your labor again and again....Its just that, once you get your I-140 approved, you will have to wait for dates to become current to file I-485...

Goodness!! These entries are awesome, I envy you guys. It was hard to decide, but it came down to eilsoe's and soul's. Perhaps, USA can levy another "fee" on H1-B folks to cover up the fighter jet deal loss just like they levy the mexico border protection fees on H1-B's.
Obama and USA should know that they can not cover every expense in USA by levying fees on H1-B folks. It's disgusting.

HI ..most the CP filers are in US and contribute to Immigration Voice regularly. You can say by mistake or something else some people chose to go for Consular Processing when dates became current and they all are in bad shape at this time. If you think about those who applied for Cp being in US then you would realise 485 filers are too much priviledged in comparison of them.

Try getting info from any other consulate...you will feel the same.... I used to feel the same until I dealt with UK / French /Italian consulates for tourist visa....it was as horrible...
