I will be sending the following note to my senator and have already posted it to WhiteHouse.gov. I urge all those screwed by the ongoing retrogression to do the same.
"I am writing to inform you of how the country based quotas imposed on Employment Based green cards are unfair and totally illogical. When I immigrated to the US, I believed that this country was a meritocracy where you were judged based on your abilities and qualities. These country based quotas reward people depending on where they or their ancestors were born. This causes people from India and China to wait over a decade to get a green card whereas someone from another country with similar or lesser abilities can obtain permanent residence in half that time.
Since these EB category based green cards are awarded for professional skills, imposing a country based quota just does not make any sense. I urge you to work with Congress and change this discriminatory policy and reinforce that America is truly a society that celebrates meritocracy."

What does such a response mean?
To me, it is evident that IF the action is clearly defined AND some one has a clear mandate, then people will come together to participate and contribute.
I am tired of hearing how the loopholes in the immigration system are taken advantage of. If we focus on increasing the cap for Indian EB category [across the board] and recapturing the lost visa numbers, then the remaining problems will take care of themselves. For this, we need to lobby until we get a reform legislation to pass.
And for people that are furious that a very small percentage of folks are taking advantage of the system, i urge them to look at the majority of the people that are leading a honest life and take solace. You are not alone in this journey. And don't let lack of GC put a damper on whatever you wish to do. Get creative and make use of the same legal system to achieve what you want. You are in the same framework as those folks that are taking advantage of the system are. Work the system in the right way.

Lets just say the announcement is that you can apply EAD/AP once your LC is cleared. Then just like usual USCIS will spend there time precocessing these new applicants and you will have to wait 1 yr just to get EAD/AP.

You have gone over all my other threads and what I have and have not done in those threads except provide me with an anwer to the above question. Thanks for the link to the summary. But therein itself lies the solution. As you can see from the summary, the EAD eligibility in all cases explained above is in cases which does not impact the GC quota. Apparently, people against whom removal process is initiated is eligible to receive an EAD!!! Also, as you mentioned in your post, the CFR is not a law, it is an interpretation of law made by the agencies and the agencies are free to change the applicability, extension, conditions of eligibility for EAD as they seem fit. The reason is because COngress never foresaw these huge wait times when they passed the INA (in fact our FAQs make that pretty clear). I think if a little bit of persuasion is applied by the right people to the right places, we may just make this work. I agree with Raj, maybe we should take this a bit farther and see what develops.
Another compelling reason for doing this is the fact that even if the CIR were to be passed, by the time the agencies develop their regulations we are easily looking at another 2 yrs plus before we see the effects of the CIR.

I read that most would-be immigrants are differentiating themselves as an 'illigal' or a 'legal' immigrant. People are forgetting that legal or illegal both are immigrant and want to have a better life for themselves or for their family compare to what their own country have to offer to them. Where is the difference - look deep into your heart - difference is one has some additional pieces of papers while other does not. Stop differentiating! Start uniting and fight for the justice.
I have not done my research on the "Dream act" and thus would refrain from speaking on it (I am all for sparing the kids from hardship though)...but I take strong exception to your comment above. I pride myself to be a legal immigrant...and frankly any person who flaunts the law of the land, disgusts me.
I have spent thousands of dollars and hours to maintain my legal documents that you so casually refer to as "pieces of paper". I have sacrificed my career to a certain extent for those "pieces of paper". I have put my married life on peril for those "pieces of paper". But I am proud of it, 'coz those pieces of paper differentiate me from a Criminal.
The only reason I joined IV was that this is for LEGAL immigrants and for folks who have followed the law, however discriminating it might seem.

Our goal from these meetings is simple: to get the issue on the radar.
Remember usually when lawmakers/lawmaker district office staff hear "immigration" they think "illegal immigration." Our presentation is usually the beginning of their education -- we have no expectation that they have "deep" or any knowledge of the nitty gritty.
All we want is that they send our material to their Immigration aide in DC, and recognize that there is an issue out there.
